    PGCM (Retail Management)

    Accurate offers Postgraduate Certificate in Retail Management, approved by All India Council for Technical Education and Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, which will enable student to equip with all that which is needed by the industry for a good placement both in Public and Private Sector undertakings. We focus on immediate placement, once the programme is cleared by the student. Being the approved programme of the AICTE, we have taken utmost interest in involving industry and academician to design the course, which is ahead of others. 

    The Institute has made considerable break through in associating itself with players of the Retail Industry both at domestic and international levels. The Programme shall be giving tailor made curriculum to answer the challenges faced by the industry and to evolve solutions for the same successfully by the students once they are in the Market. 

    Why PGCM (RM)

    The retailing scene in India has changed dramatically in the past 15 years and is continuously changing. Companies and other corporate are investing in the development of retail stores(as Westside by TATA, Music World by RPG, Crossroad by Piramals, Shopper’s Stop by Rahejas, Big Bazaar, Titan and so on).

    The Economic Times Report-Retailing in India(2003) estimated the size of organized retailing at Rs. 16,000 Crore in 2001-02 with a growth of 18-20 percent per annum. Based on these estimates, organized retailing is expected to cross Rs. 37,000 Crore sales mark by the year 2007. 

    India’s organized retail market is estimated at only 3% but is expected to reach 10% to USD 23 billion by 2010- industry body ASSOCHAM, June 2007. 

    The government has opened the sector partially with 51% FDI permission in ‘single-brand retailing’. 

    This boom in the retail market is expected to generate about 2 Million jobs by 2010 (FICCI news by Sahara Times, May 2006). And only few premiere institutes are offering this type of professional course developing only a small number of trained professionals every year. 

    PGCM(RM) is a condensed course and is job oriented and a faster way to climb up the ladder of earning money. Thus every student passing out from this course of retail management shall get a warm welcome by the Retail Industry. 

    The Course Objectives

  • To produce graduates with a sound understanding of established as well as modern approaches to retailing and the skills necessary for a successful Retail Career.
  • To train students exclusively in the processes, technologies and trends of contemporary retail management using national & international examples in order to develop an appreciation of the genesis of retailing.
  • To expose students with subject matter of wide-ranging academic disciplines like economics, planning, marketing, consumer behaviour, business strategy, operational aspects such as merchandising, store locations, store operations, logistics and SCM.
  • To demonstrate a thorough understanding of the industry and associated organizations.
  • Be involved directly in teaching students about the operation of retailing and processes within the industry.

    Course Structure 

    This is a 15-month Certificate programme approved by AICTE and consists of 15 months. First 12 months are of learning modules and in the next term, students go for a three-month period of supervised training in retail sector leading to the submission of a dissertation. 

    The Ist term, core modules set out to establish a sound comprehension of the retailing concepts, fundamentals, economic and organizational context of studies. 

    In the subsequent terms, students to increase their knowledge by individual skill as well as develop sound knowledge of various managerial functions of retailing business. 

    Later on, the students will concentrate on making strategic level decisions, which drive retail businesses forward. Furthermore students can either devise a project and examine any issue that interests him in retailing career.

    In the last term, student will devote to a period of supervised work experience in retail company. This can vary from store management responsibilities merchandising, customer service, tariffs, barriers & other retail functions.

    The experience will vastly improve your career prospects and make you an employable postgraduate-one who possesses good knowledge, proven skills and an ability to improve your capabilities on a continuous basis.
